FA Florence educator will discuss 20 of the states most inspirational African-American women at a March 2 program at Coastal Carolina University.

Mack T. Hines III, a consultant, author and motivational speaker, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 in Wall Auditorium. The program, which continues the universitys African American Celebration, is free and open to the public.

20/20: An Inspirational Look at 20 of South Carolinas Most Notable African-American Women is the title of Hines speech, as well as his book. He is currently assistant principal at Williams Middle School in Florence.

The author-educator said he was motivated to write the book when a state newspaper ran a list of noteworthy South Carolina women and only a handful were African Americans. Some of the women that Hines includes in his top 20 list are: Septima Clark of Charleston, who was called the Queen Mother of the civil rights movement by Rosa Parks; Nina Mae McKinney of Lancaster, the first African-American female actress of major motion pictures; Maggie Wallace Glover of Florence, the first African-American woman elected to the South Carolina state Senate; and Ruth Gardenia Birnie, the first African-American female pharmacist in South Carolina.
