Coastal Carolina to host S.C. Campus Safety Conference

The South Carolina Campus Safety Conference will be hosted by Coastal Carolina University on March 11 and 12, bringing together representatives from the state’s public colleges and universities to discuss critical issues of campus safety.

“The Year of the Student…Multidisciplinary Approaches to Solving Campus Life Issues” is the conference theme, recognizing the importance of student involvement in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment..

The conference will feature important information on sexual assault, cyber safety, cyber dating, Internet chat rooms, making campuses safe, identity theft and residency security..

Joel Epstein of Clemson University, the author of “A Parent’s Guide to Sex, Drugs and Flunking Out: Answers to Questions Your College Student Doesn’t Want You to Ask,” will be the keynote speaker. A former associate director of the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention, Epstein is a recognized authority on safety issues at colleges and universities. .

Linda Floyd, a parent representative on the conference planning committee, said the conference is open and applicable to parents, prospective and current college students, administrators and law enforcement personnel. The registration fee for both days is $95. All sessions will be in the Wall Auditorium..
