Two Coastal Carolina music students offer 'Songfest'

"Mixed Melodies: A Songfest of Blues, Pop, Funk and More" is being offered on Thursday, April 8 in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University.

The 7:30 p.m. concert, which is free and open to the public, features Coastal music students Elise Testone and Stephen Webb, accompanied by a band of Coastal musicians.

Testone, a junior from Kinnelon, N.J., is a music major concentrating on vocal performance. She is a member of Coastal's Concert Choir, the Gospel Choir, Pop 101 Band and a regular performer in the Courtyard Performance Series on campus.

Webb, a junior from Myrtle Beach, also studies vocal performance, including opera. He has been in six productions, including last spring's musical, "Songs of a New World," the Pop 101 Band and the Coastal Concert Choir. Both study under Coastal's David Bankston, associate professor of performing arts and veteran performer. Testone and Webb have had leading roles in performances for the Edwards College Fall Gala.

The program will include Testone performing songs such as Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart," Phoebe Snow's "Shaky Ground" and Erykah Badu's "Appletree," as well as her original song, "Soothing Beauty."

She and Webb will perform Elton John's "Young Song" in duet. Webb's songlist includes Chris Isaak's "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing," Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely," Adam Guetell's "Awaiting You" and more.
