Lecture at Coastal to deal with health of pilots, strokes

An epidemiologist from the Medical University of South Carolina will give a presentation at Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, April 1 at 7 p.m. in Wall Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Joyce S. Nicholas, an assistant professor in MUSC's Department of Biometry and Epidemiology, will discuss "Strokes, Pilots and Autistic Children: The World of Epidemiology." The talk is sponsored by AKD, Coastal's chapter of the international sociology honor society.

Nicholas, who holds four degrees in her fields, including two master's degrees in biomedical engineering and mathematics and a Ph.D. in biometry and epidemiology, has conducted extensive research on what causes death among commercial pilots, autism disorders in South Carolina and other developmental disabilities. Her articles have been widely published in medical publications.

For more information, contact Sylvia Snyder in Coastal's Department of Psychology and Sociology at 349-2471.
