Football 101, offered through the spring Lifelong Learning series, will be led by Coastal Carolina Universitys Coach David Bennett, his staff and team players, who will explain how the game is played. The three-week course will be held in Brooks Stadium press box. Seating is limited so early registration is advised. The program is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 6 to 22, from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Other Lifelong Learning classes and events are scheduled for this month. Each Friday in April, ecologist Julie Finlayson will lead excursions to some of the coasts most pristine barrier islands, including Waites Island, Bull Island and two other locations. Its $89 for nonmembers of the Lifelong Learning Society and $70 for members.

If youre more inclined to stay indoors and explore your creative and artistic interests, courses in visual art, writing and music are being offered through the continuing education program. Three different art programs will include sketching, basic drawing and pottery making (without the use of a wheel). Students will learn the mechanics of creating pinch pots, coil pots, a slab pot and how to create a face and body of clay. The four-week course begins Monday, April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Its $59/$49 for non-members/members.

For music lovers, six musical performances are scheduled featuring George Devens, who has spent more than 30 years as a studio musician. This session will include music of the minstrel shows, Stephen Foster and vaudeville, as well as music from the 1930s, ragtime and jazz and Broadway tunes. The six-week course will be on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Its $59/$49 for nonmembers and members.

A writing workshop will be held on April 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. using pivotal topics and inspirational readings as jumping off points for writing about your life. Its $39/$35 and includes lunch.
