Jazz After Hours performance features standards

April 26, 2004

Musical jazz styles from classic standards to more contemporary sounds will be featured as Jazz After Hours presents its annual spring concert at Coastal Carolina University at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29 in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Coastal’s jazz ensemble featuring 23 students will perform the music of composers such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Sammy Nestico. Musical styles will range from big band arrangements such as “String of Pearls” to more contemporary sounds.

Also featured will be the Late Night Eleven, a smaller group of musicians who create their own arrangements, and student vocalist Morgan Sprinkle.

The concert will last approximately an hour and a half, and the audience has the opportunity to vote on a dozen logos that will represent the band.
