Coastal Educational Foundation adds two new members

    Larry D. Coats Jr. and L.H. “Hank” Mense have been named to the Coastal Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

    Coats, of Durham, N.C., is president and CEO of Oak Value Capital Management, Inc., an investment advisory firm. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Coastal Carolina College and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. He is a member of Coastal’s E. Craig Wall Sr. College Board of Visitors, as well as a member of the Educational Foundation’s Investment Committee. Coats was instrumental in establishing the William J. Baxley Jr. Applied Business Professorship at Coastal in 1999.

    Mense, of Myrtle Beach, owns and manages storage and warehouse space. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at George Washington University. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard for 23 years before retiring and for 11 years held teaching and administrative positions in public education. He has served on the Wall School of Business Administration Board of Visitors since 1998.

    The Coastal Educational Foundation is a nonprofit corporation, which receives and disburses charitable gifts in support of Coastal Carolina University. The foundation was established in 1954 for the purpose of advancing higher learning in Horry County and was instrumental in the creation of Coastal. The foundation meets quarterly.

    Coastal Educational Foundation board members serve six-year terms.
