CCU-Waccamaw offers more than 100 noncredit courses for fall

July 22, 2004

Want to brush up on your French, the American Civil War or Lowcountry history? Head for Coastal Carolina University’s Waccamaw Higher Education Center for the fall noncredit courses that begin Oct. 4 and run through Dec. 2.

With more than 100 courses ranging from serious academic topics (Italian, economics, literature, art, history, philosophy and religion) to lifestyle pursuits (tai chi, yoga, bonsai growing) to the creative (calligraphy, sculpting, writing, photography), there’s something for any interest.

The center, which celebrated its grand opening July 20, has a listing of course offerings available to the public at 160 Willbrook Blvd., Litchfield, just off U.S. 17 and west of the Hampton Inn. Costs for the noncredit classes range from $20 (introduction to stained glass) to $350 (sculpting the bust), depending on the subject and materials needed. The month of September is filled with one-day workshops, many of them introductions to full-length courses that begin in October.

Ninety-four classes are available at the Waccamaw Center, and 17 different courses are being held at the Georgetown campus, located at 4003 S. Fraser St. For more information, or to register with a credit card, call the Waccamaw Center at 349-4030.
