Director of Counseling Services announced at Coastal

J.R. Hap Cox has been named Director of Counseling Services at Coastal Carolina University, effective Aug. 1.

The director is charged with the operation of the office that offers individual and group counseling, crisis intervention and assessment for students experiencing developmental, emotional, social and behavioral concerns. He is also responsible for services for students with disabilities, supervision of staff and administrative duties, as well as consultation to faculty and staff as needed.

Cox has been associate director and psychologist at the University of West Florida Counseling Center in Pensacola, Fla. since 1999. He earned a Ph.D. in counseling psychology at Colorado State University and a master’s degree at University of West Florida, where he also obtained undergraduate degrees in psychology and political science.
