Coastal Carolina University to provide public safety services for Horry-Georgetown Technical College

August 19, 2004

Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College have entered into an agreement whereby Coastal will provide public safety services on HGTC’s Conway campus.

According to the terms of the agreement, Coastal will provide around-the-clock safety and security service on the HGTC campus, including issuing traffic and parking citations and monitoring video surveillance equipment. Coastal safety personnel will follow HGTC directives and guidelines regarding parking and traffic rules. A Traffic Citation Appeals Committee will be organized and managed by Coastal, but the members of the committee will be HGTC faculty, staff and students.

“This cooperative arrangement between neighbor institutions is a logical move for both Coastal and HGTC,” said Coastal President Ronald R. Ingle. “We are always eager to form partnerships that save resources and are mutually beneficial.”

Previously, HGTC contracted with an outside agency for safety services. HGTC will reimburse Coastal for its services.

“Horry-Georgetown Technical College and Coastal Carolina University enjoy a long history of collaboration,” said HGTC President H. Neyle Wilson. “This security agreement is the latest evidence of our mutual commitment to uphold public trust through efficient operation and frugal use of public funds.”
