Coastals Student Center gets a new name

October 11, 2004

Coastal Carolina Universitys Student Center has a new name. The Lib Jackson Student Center has been named for the late Elizabeth Benson Jackson of Myrtle Beach to commemorate a gift from her family to Coastals 50th Anniversary Initiatives fund-raising campaign.

A naming ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. in the lobby of Wheelwright Auditorium with remarks by CCU President Ronald R. Ingle and Vice President for Student Affairs Lynn Willett. The ceremony is open to the public.

Jackson was born and raised in Salisbury, N.C., the oldest of four children. She married A.E. Jackson Jr., and the couple moved to Myrtle Beach in 1939.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach for 65 years, serving on the building committee and other committees, and was president of the Womens Society of Christian Service.

Jackson was involved in the PTA, was president of the Myrtle Beach Garden Club, a Girl Scout leader and a founding member of the Archibald Rutledge Book Club and later a member of the Heritage Book Club. She enjoyed serving the community and playing golf and bridge.

She was the mother of two children, Sara and Edward, and grandmother of five: Bryan, Robin and Ben Batchelder; and Garrett and Kenzie Jackson.
