Flutist featured in performance at Coastal Carolina
Amy Hardison Tully, instructor of music at Coastal, and pianist Winifred Goodwin will perform a variety of pieces from the solo flute repertoire including well known works by Haase, Reinecke, Berio and 20th century American composer Lowell Liebermann. The faculty recital is part of Coastal’s Cultural Arts Series.
Tully earned a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and a master’s degree in musicology from Northwestern University. She is pursuing a doctorate in flute performance at the University of South Carolina.
Tully is a member of the Long Bay Symphony and is a frequent freelance performer throughout the Grand Strand area. She has performed with the Wilmington Sea Flutes, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, Opera House Theatre Company (Wilmington, N.C.) and the Northwestern University Early Music Ensemble. She has been a featured guest soloist in the First Presbyterian Church Concert Series in Myrtle Beach and the Lake City Concert Series.
She has trained with flutists such as Constance G. Lane, Victoria McLamb, Lynne Marks and Leslie Fagan. Her research background focuses on 20th century American composers. She is a member of the chamber groups Strand Strings and Tidelands Trio. At Coastal, Tully teaches flute and music history and directs the CCU Flute Choir.
Goodwin is staff accompanist for the University of South Carolina School of Music and the principle keyboardist with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been a featured soloist on a number of programs, including more than 80 performances of Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals.”
