The U.S. WAF (Women of the Air Force) Band

    Sunday, Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m.
    Wheelwright Auditorium

The original U.S. WAF (Women of the Air Force) Band was in existence from 1951 to 1961 and, during that time, about 235 women served their country by playing their instruments. They met troop ships, played for VA hospitals and helped with recruiting throughout our great country. They marched in President Eisenhower's Inaugural parade in Washington, D.C., (twice) and in the Seattle Seafare Parade three or four times, as well as many other parades and fairs including Anchorage, Alaska and St Louis, Mo. During reunions, they rehearse for several days and then go out and play two or three concerts for the local area. In addition to performing at Coastal Carolina University this year, they will travel to the American Legion Post #186 in Little River, S.C. to perform on Wednesday evening, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
