Pi Mu Epsilon (Mathematics)

Details:Pi Mu Epsilon, Inc (PME, is the Honorary National Mathematics Society. It was founed on May 25, 1914 at Syracuse University and currently as 300 chapters at colleges and universities thoughout the United States. The purpose of PME is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among the students in academis institutions. The Cooastal Carolina University chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, South Carolina Epsilon, participate in many functions thoughout the academic year. This chapter organizes an annual Math Jeopardy Contest on campus and competes at regional conferences, invites speakers in the mathematical sciences, assists with the CCU Math Contest for high scool students, and represents the math department at various events. A person meeting any one of the following five sets of qualifications may be elected to membership. This election shall be irresponsible of sex, religion, race, or national origin.

1) Undergraduate students who have had at least two years of collge mathematics including calculus, who have completed their mathematical work with honor (at least B average), and who are in the top one-third of their class in their college work.
2) Sophomores who are majoring or intend to major in mathematica, who have completed at least three semesters (4 quarters) of college mathematics including one semester of calculus, who have achieved a straight A record in all mathematic courses taken, and, who are in the top quarter of their general work
3) Graduate students whose mahematical work is at least equivalent to that required of qualified undergraduates, and whohave maintained at least a B average in mathematics during their last school year prior to election.
4) Members of the faculty in mathematices or realted subjects.
5) Any persons who have achieved distiction in a mathematical science.
