S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Active Responsibility)
S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Active Responsibility) is the community service
organization of Coastal Carolina University. S.T.A.R. provides opportunities throughout the year for
students, faculty, and staff to make an impact on the community.
In addition to the great feeling it gives you to help others, community service tells prospective
employers that you are a team player, that you care about the community and that you can take
initiative and solve problems. Community Service experience is now being required by many graduate schools,
including law schools and medical schools.
Organizations that S.T.A.R has worked with in the past included:
- American Cancer Society/Relay For Life
- United Way
- American Red Cross
- Horry County Shelter Home
- March of Dimes
Every Spring Break S.T.A.R. plans a Habitat for Humanity trip. Locations have included:
- Long Beach, Calif.
- Vero Beach, Fla.
- New Orleans, La.
- Miami, Fla.
