The International Studies Minor
Requirements
The International Studies minor requires students to take courses that
provide a broad background in international relations, topics, and cultures.
It is an interdisciplinary minor, requiring students to take courses in
at least three different subject areas, including such areas as Art, History,
Science, Politics, Philosophy, Religion, and Business. A total of 18 credit
hours must be taken from a list of approved courses in these subject areas,
with certain contingencies and limitations. Further, a language requirement
must be met, with the student achieving a mastery of either French, German, or
Spanish at the 210 level.

Application
In order to earn a minor in International Studies, you must file an application
with your current major advisor and the International Studies advisor, Dr. Pamela Martin.
You will be asked to provide some personal information and the courses you would like to
take to fulfill your minor. As with any other program of study, you should make sure that
you have the prerequisites for all courses you intend to take. You will be expected to
explain why you chose certain courses and how they will complement your major field of study.
Many of the courses listed are offered on a limited basis. It is important to verify that
the selections will be taught during the desired period of undergraduate study. The student
must earn a grade of C or a passing certificate for Foreign Language 350 (Study Abroad) for each course
applied to the minor.
Dr. Martin is a professor in the Department of Politics and Geography who works with all students
involved in the International Studies minor. Her areas of study are International Relations
and Comparative Politics.
