Model United Nations
Coastal Carolina University Delegation

"Congratulations on your appointment as the Brazilian Ambassador to the United Nations!  Prepare yourself intellectually for the task of addressing the world community in the forum of the General Assembly, defending Brazil’s national interests in front of the Security Council – this may involve a verbal brawl with the American ambassador – and directing a team of Brazilian diplomats who serve on a wide range of specialized committees dealing with the HIV-AIDS epidemic, pollution in the oceans, global climate change, and the accelerating proliferation of nuclear weapons. Good Luck!"

We won’t always be Brazil because Coastal Carolina University’s assigned country changes every year.  Every autumn term, however, the university sends a team off to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete in the Southern Regional Model United Nations.  We are given a country to represent, and over the past several years, we’ve been Kenyans, Brazilians, and Japanese.  As an experience, it’s demanding and intense and exciting, requiring us all to learn a great deal in not very much time and see the world from other points of view.

If you want to find out more information about Coastal Carolina University’s Model UN program, please contact Dr. Richard Collin at collin@coastal.edu or Dr. Pam Martin at plmartin@coastal.edu.
