Once students receive their official acceptance letter into Coastal Carolina University, they can log onto the Residence Life Web site at www.coastal.edu/reslife and submit an online housing application. First-Time Freshmen – Waccamaw and Santee Hall, The Woods Community and The Gardens. Limited spaces may be available at University Place, CCU preferred housing. Applicants may request specific housing arrangements and rank their preferences on their application with no guarantees. What are the diffrences in room types? Waccamaw/Santee: How much does it cost to apply for housing? Applicants must include a $150.00 payment along with their housing application. $50.00 is a non-refundable application fee and $100.00 is a housing deposit. Payment can be made out to Coastal Carolina University. Yes. Applicants can request up to three other roommates. Roommates must be mutually selected; all roommates must put the same names and CCU ID numbers on their applications or requests will not be granted. Do I have to have a meal plan? Meal plans are required for all on-campus residents. Students living in preferred housing at University Place are not required to have a meal plan. When do I get confirmation that my application has been subitted? Confirmation letters will be mailed to applicants at their permanent address shortly after their application has been submitted. This confirmation guarantees the applicant a place on campus, but it does not correspond to a particular room. When and how will I be notified of my room assignment? Room assignments are finalized in July. Applicants must check their CCU email account for their placement (e.g. abcsmith@coastal.edu) by the third week in July. What if I am not happy with my room? Once housing assignments are made in July, they are final. If a student would like to request a room change, they can speak with their Resident Director beginning the third week in each semester. Please see the “Living on Campus” section of FAQs for more details. How will I be billed for my housing? Housing fees will be placed on student accounts through the Bursar’s office (the same as tuition). Room and board are billed per semester. Financial aid is deducted directly from the account. How can I cancel my housing application for any reason? Housing application cancellations must be submitted in writing by May 31, 2008 for a $100.00 refund of the housing deposit. Cancellations must be submitted in writing by July 15, 2008 for a $50.00 refund of the housing deposit. After July 15, 2008, applicants will be fined a penalty of $1000.00 for a housing cancellation*.

What is the "waitlist" and what do I do if I am on it? If there are more housing applicants than spaces on campus, we will begin a waitlist for these applicants. The list is generated and students are placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlisted applicants need to check their CCU email beginning in July to see if they have received a placement. These applicants are responsible for contacting Residence Life to remove their names from the waitlist if they choose to live off-campus. What is the cancellation policy for "waitlisted" applicants? Waitlisted applicants must submit a written notification of their cancellation (please see contact information above). Waitlisted applicants who cancel before the first day of classes will receive a partial refund of their housing deposit. If they remain a CCU student, the refund will be credited to their student account. Does CCU offer special housing for athletes? There are no special residence halls for athletes, but athletes may request to live together according to availability. Scholarship student athletes should work with Lisa Donaldson, Director of Compliance, when applying for housing. Is there an age limit for living on-campus? No. Most main campus residence halls are set-up for traditional students but we can accommodate non-traditional students in The Gardens community. Non-traditional students should contact The Office of Residence Life directly at (843) 349-6400. Non-traditional students can also request to live at University Place, CCU preferred off-campus housing. Does CCU offer graduate or family housing? Presently we do not provide housing on campus for graduate students or families. Graduate students can apply to live at University Place, CCU preferred off-campus housing. Does CCU offer housing for students with special needs? Yes, Residence Life will work with every student to find the best possible placement. Applicants with special needs should contact our office directly, along with the Office of Disability Services for assistance. The Office of Residence Life is responsible for assigning students to the residence halls. The office also provides housing forms for and information about all housing, and administers system-wide policies. All students are required to sign a Residence Life Contract. We maintain 31 residence halls which house approximately 2,200 students. The types of residence halls range from apartment-style to traditional suite-style accommodations. |
