The undergraduate specialization in recreation management offers professional
development in leadership and organizational principles to recreation
settings…..
According to projections based on U.S. Dept. of Labor 2004-2005 Career
Guide to Industries, employment opportunities in Recreation are projected
to increase about 28 percent over the period from 2002-2012 compared
to 16% for all industries.
The specialization in sport management offers professional preparation
in the application of business principles to the sport industry. Students
will complete a degree program that includes courses in economics, management,
marketing/promotions, and legal aspects. Sport management courses
also emphasize the role of sport in society, including the ethics, psychology,
communication, and leadership in sport.
According to Horrigan, employment opportunities in spectator sports
will increase by 22.3% over the period from 2002 to 2012.
Recreation and Sport Management graduates will be prepared to begin
careers in a variety of areas. Entry-level jobs offer a variety
of starting salaries and offer excellent opportunities for rapid advancement. Some
graduates may follow up the RSM degree by seeking graduate school or
advanced study in a supporting area.
