Assistantships
The Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies graduate program
offers both teaching and research assistantships. The application
for an assistantship should be made at the same time as the
application for admission to the degree program. Typically,
3-4 teaching assistantships are available each fall. The number
of research assistantships varies each year. Students interested
in research assistantships should contact faculty directly
concerning their availability.
Assistantships are awarded for a semester with renewals normally
awarded for a maximum of four semesters. Incoming students
awarded a teaching assistantship can expect to be supported
for four semesters, pending favorable reviews from their supervisors.
Teaching assistantships include a stipend and reduced tuition.
Since rates are subject to change applicants should confirm them with the CMWS
Graduate Coordinator. The duration and stipend for graduate
research assistantships are determined by the level of grant
support and the faculty supervisor. Research assistantships
may also be entiltled for reduced tuition. For both
teaching and research assistantships, students are expected
to work 20 hours per week during the semester and must be
registered for at least 6 credits per semester and one credit
hour each summer. Research assistantships may have additional
requirements in the summer. Graduate teaching assistants are
expected to teach 2 laboratory sections per semester. Additional
information and an application for a Graduate Assistantship
are available at the link below.
