About Computing Sciences
The Department of Computing Sciences high-quality education to students for successful careers in computer science, information systems, and information technology. The faculty, consisting of eleven full-time professors and lecturers, are committed to excellence in teaching and to providing an outstanding educational experience for its students. While enjoying small-sized classes, students will also find an up-to-date curriculum that offers a wide range of relevant and interesting courses.
Our department offers three Bachelor of Science degrees: BS in Computer Science, a BS in Information Systems, and a BS in Information Technology. In addition to these, the department also offers three minor concentrations: Computer Science, Web Application Development, and Scientific Computing.
Coastal originally received approval to offer a BS in Computer Science in the Spring of 1985. Initially, the Computer Science Department was a part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Services and then two years later became a part of the College of Business Administration. Today, the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems resides in the College of Science.
Our BS in Computer Science has been fully accredited by ABET/CAC since Fall 2003. With ABET accreditation, students, parents, employers, and the society we serve can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.
