Recreation and Sport Management Required Course/Tracking Sheet

 

RECREATION AND SPORT MANAGEMENT DEGREE REQUIREMENTS  

To earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation and Sport Management, a maximum of 73 credits may be applied toward satisfying Foundation Courses and Major Requirements. Students must earn a grade of C or above in each course used to satisfy Foundation and Major Requirements and English 101  and 102.

One course labeled Writing Intensive (WI) must be taken by every student during each of the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years. English 101 and 102 are designated as writing intensive courses in the freshman year. In addition, one course labeled Computer Usage (CU) and one Library Research (LR) course must be successfully completed by every student before         graduation.

Beginning in the Fall 2006, students interested in seeking a degree in RSM will be required to meet certain admission requirements. As the final the required course, students must complete a 480 hour internship with an agency that serves the public in recreation or sport. To be eligible  to do an internship, students are required to apply for admission to the  internship capstone experience.

Students select an approved interdisciplinary minor or an approved cognate of upper level courses (300-400 level, see approved list) intended to support the major in career-related areas such as communications, business administration, economics, health/fitness, marketing, sport studies, technical writing, and drawn from outside their major with the approval of their faculty advisor.  Minors are encouraged in Business Administration, Coaching, Communications, Economics, Fitness, Health Promotion, Journalism, Marketing, Sports Medicine, Technical and Professional Writing.  Students may also select the approved RSM cognate (see advisor for list).
