Network Configuration
Windows 95/98/Me Network Configuration
- Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop.
- Select Properties from the bottom of the menu that pops up.

The Network Properties window will pop up. You should see at least these
three items installed. Client for Microsoft Networks, Your network card
name, and TCP/IP. You may have other items in your list such as a dial up
adapter. These items shouldn't cause a problem with you connecting to the
Coastal network. Click on the Primary Network Logon box. Select Windows
Logon. You do not need a name and password to access the Internet from
the dorms.

On the Configuartion tab click TCP/IP highlighting it and click the
"Properties" button. In the window that opens click the IP
Address tab. Click the "Obtain an IP Address automatically"
option.

Click on the WINS configuartion tab and select Disable WINS resolution.

Click on the Gateway tab. This should be blank. If any addresses are
present under Installed Gateways click on the address to highlight it and
click the Remove button.

Click on the DNS configuration tab. Select Disable DNS. Click OK to close
the TCP/IP properties window.

At the top of the window click the Identification tab. In the Computer
Name field enter your room name and
number followed by A or B if you are in a two person room or A, B, C,
or D if you live in a quad room. Each computer on Coastal's network must
have a unique name. In the Workgroup box enter your building name. In the
Computer Description box enter the name of the student who owns the
computer.

Click OK. Windows will now copy all the files it needs to your hard
drive. Your computer may ask for your windows CD or the drivers for your
video card.
- If you see a Version Conflict box like the one below click No.

After Windows copies all the files you will be prompted to restart you
computer. Choose Yes. This should complete your computer setup. If you
can not access the Internet at this point please go to the
Troubleshooting page.
