Special Academic Opportunities
The special education program includes extensive field experiences in
area schools, beginning in the first semester of study in education and
continuing through the internship experience at the end of the program.
Field work begins with a focus on structured observations, followed by
expectations for individual, small group, and whole-class instruction,
participation in Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, transition
planning, comprehensive evaluation procedures, and parent involvement.
Special education majors are expected to be reflective practitioners in
the art of teaching, inquiring, analyzing, and evaluating throughout their
programs in both on-campus as well as off-campus settings.
