Founders Day Convocation
The Founders Day Convocation was initiated in 1987 as the University's way to express its great appreciation to those whose spirit and determination have shaped the historic, academic and physical development of the University and higher education in the region. More specifically, criteria for selection as an honorary Founder recognizes that the person or institution:
- Has been instrumental in the development of Coastal Carolina College or Coastal Carolina University
- Reflects the ideals of the original founders
- Has contributed time, talent or resources to the enhancement of the institution
- Has demonstrated over time an exemplary commitment to the University
- Has demonstrated a passion for service to the institution
The University Medallion was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Coastal Carolina University in one or more of the following areas: service to education or the community, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and scholarship. The first University Medallions were awarded in September 2012.
Founders and Honorary Founders
The following visionary leaders and organizations are honored in Founders Foyer, located in the Edward M. Singleton Building. It is the University's hope that current and future generations of students, as they pass through Founders Foyer, will be reminded of the many contributions of the Founders that serve as a benchmark from which the University may move forward with renewed enthusiasm and commitment.
