The Coastal Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE) is an annual opportunity for outstanding wind and percussion players in the coastal region of the Carolinas to perform significant symphonic band and wind ensemble literature, and to have the experience of rehearsing and performing together on an extended basis. Sponsored by the Coastal Carolina University (CCU) Band Program, CYWE is open by audition to students in grades 8-12. Under the leadership of conductor Dr. James L. Tully, CCU Director of Bands, and assistant conductor Matthew Shrewsbury, CCU Assistant Director of Bands, CYWE rehearses on Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Coastal Band Hall from March-May. Every effort is made to avoid schedule conflicts with CYWE members' home school ensembles and activities.
