The Coastal Carolina University Band Program has created a new opportunity for wind and percussion players. As part of the Coastal Carolina University Music Department’s Community Concert Series, The Coastal Youth Wind Ensemble (CYWE) is open by audition to students in grades 8-12 who play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, string bass, and percussion, as well as one spot for piano and harp. Members of CYWE will rehearse and perform some of most well known repertoire for wind band and have a chance to make new friends with other talented musicians throughout the North and South Carolina area. The group is conducted by Dr. James L. Tully, Director of Bands at Coastal Carolina University.
There will be an informational meeting for students, parents, and directors, on Monday January 11, 2010 at the Coastal Band Hall at 7:00pm. Every effort will be made to avoid schedule conflicts with CYWE members’ home school ensembles.
CYWE will rehearse on Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Coastal Band Hall from mid-January through mid-March and will perform a concert on Tuesday March 23, 2010 in the newly refurbished Wheelwright Auditorium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
The annual Coastal Honor Band & Scholarship Festival, normally held in January, has been cancelled in 2010 due to renovations to Wheelwright Auditorium. However, seniors interested in attending Coastal Carolina University in Fall 2010 can audition for scholarships and other financial awards during the CYWE rehearsal period with awards being made on the night of the concert.
