While we are very proud of our financial assistance program, the paramount reason for involvement with the CCU Bands should always be the love of the activity - not the money! If your first question when considering membership is - "If I play in the band, how much do I get?" - then the CCU Band Program is not the right place for you.
Members of the CCU Band Program are eligible for two types of financial assistance as described below. Students will qualify for only one of the following awards, and you must be enrolled in the appropriate course. Chanticleer Band Program Awards and Participation Stipends are credited to the student's account at the end of each semester. In other words, you have to complete the requirements of the semester before being credited the award. All awards that require participation prior to being credited to the student's account will show on Webadvisor as an award with an 'E' action status. This allows the student to see the award pending and the Financial Aid Office to budget the award in their account. The Bursar's Office does not see awards with an 'E' status, so these awards will not show on any bills.
PARTICIPATION STIPENDS
If you are enrolled in the appropriate course, you will automatically receive a stipend for participating in the Spirit of the Chanticleer in the amount of $240 for the fall semester only. A limited number of Symphonic and Jazz Band stipends are available at the discretion of the directors in the amount of $240 per semester. There are no auditions necessary for these awards.
In order to be awarded the Participation Stipend, you must meet the following criteria:
attend all required functions as assigned.
meet criteria as established in the syllabus of the ensemble.
BE ENROLLED IN THE APPROPRIATE COURSE.
Students may be declared as any major, however students will need to maintain standard academic progress toward their degree.
Note: Recipients of the Chanticleer Band Program Award are not eligible to receive other Participation Stipends.
CHANTICLEER BAND PROGRAM AWARD
The Chanticleer Band Program Award is an audition only award for marching band hornline members (woodwind and brass). To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must meet the following criteria:
Students must be accepted to CCU and perform an audition with the Director of Bands or his designee.
In addition to marching band participation, students must perform in a Spring ensemble. Spring ensemble assignment will be at the discretion of the Director of Bands.
Students must satisfactorily complete all course requirements as stated in the CCU Marching Band Handbook and Spring ensemble syllabus in order to qualify for renewal.
Students may be declared as any major, however students will need to maintain standard academic progress toward their degree.
The amount of the scholarship the first year will be $1,000 ($500 per semester) and it is not automatically renewable. Renewal is at the discretion of the Director of Bands and is based on instrumentation needs and merit. Students that are selected for renewal in their second year will receive $1,250 for the year and students selected for third and forth year awards will receive $1,500 each year. Note:Recipients of the Chanticleer Band Program Award are not eligible to receive the Marching Band Participation Stipend.
