COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY -- Assistant Director of Bands - Applied Music, Trumpet or Low Brass (Lecturer of Music). Terms: The appointment is at the level of Lecturer and is effective June 16, 2010. This is a full-time, eleven-month, non tenure-track, benefits-eligible appointment with annual renewal dependent upon job performance. Workload is spread over fall, spring and summer sessions, and will include course releases each semester for administrative duties and frequent recruitment travel.
Duties:
Assist the Director of Bands with overall administration of the Band Program with significant administrative responsibilities in the following areas: inventory control, recruiting, performance logistics, and budgeting.
Act as liaison between the Band Program and Athletic Department and other entities as necessary.
Co-teach marching band in the fall, and assist with show concept, planning and design.
Assist with concert band program, including possible co-teaching of University Band in the spring semester.
Teach applied brass and chamber music in the area of expertise, and other related courses as dictated by department and program needs.
Qualifications:
Master's degree required.
The candidate must possess an intimate knowledge of the workings of a college band program and be qualified to participate in all aspects of the program, with particular emphasis on athletic bands.
Prior experience as a member of a college marching and concert band, and experience in recruiting and inventory management required.
Teaching and/or performance experiences on trumpet or a low brass instrument required.
Knowledge of, and experience in, computer assisted drill design is desirable.
