Marching Percussion Instructor
Lee Willis is currently the Marching Percussion Instructor at Coastal Carolina University. Mr. Willis holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He is well versed in many musical styles, which include jazz, classical, world music, and marching percussion.
Mr. Willis served as a graduate teaching assistant at Texas Tech University from 2012-2014. His responsibilities included teaching undergraduate private percussion lessons and directing the Texas Tech Percussion Ensemble 2., He was also the drumline instructor for the Sudler Award winning Texas Tech “Goin’ Band from Raiderland”. Since 2007, Lee has been instructing and adjudicating drumlines across the state of Texas.
As a performer, Mr. Willis has participated in performances at many statewide and national conventions including the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), and the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy (NCPP). Mr. Willis has also had the privilege of performing with world renowned percussion artists such as Andy Harnsberger, Andy Narell, and Liam Teague. While at Texas Tech, Mr. Willis performed as a member of the Texas Tech Drumline (2007-2010), received the Helen Jones Music Scholarship and was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, an American honor society for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors of music. Lee has studied percussion with Lisa Rogers, Alan Shinn, and Ian Rollins.
