The Coastal Glamour Twirlers are a visual ensemble of the CCU Band Program that performs live with the CCU Spirit of the Chanticleer Marching Band. This group is a twirling team, as the CCU Band Program does not utilize soloists or feature twirlers. The Coastal Glamour Twirlers, along with the Coastal Colorguard and Coastalette Dance Team, helps to deliver an extra visual impact for the Marching Band throughout the Chanticleer's football season. The Spirit of the Chanticleer Marching Band is an integral part of the Coastal game day experience. The Band brings spirit to the fans and inspires the Chants to victory, and promotes a positive atmosphere for all to enjoy!
What is the time commitment?
Being a Coastal Glamour Twirler is a huge commitment that should not be taken lightly. All members are required to attend Band Camp that begins prior to the start of the Fall semester. Once classes begin, rehearsals are held MWF 3:30-6:00pm with a nightly section rehearsal on Tuesdays in Pawleys Island from 5:00-7:00pm until the end of the fall semester. All Coastal Glamour Twirlers are required to attend all home football games, parades, pep rallies, and other predetermined functions of the Marching Band in the Fall. Each member must be able to commit to all these requirements.
How do I beome a Coastal Glamour Twirler?
Begin by filling out the CCU Bands Online Interest Form. You must attend the audition date listed below. Exceptions can be made on rare occasions by Ms. Card. Please email her about details.
You must contact Ms. Card by email (lcard@coastal.edu) to reserve your audition placement.
Eligibility is limited to students enrolled at Coastal or incoming freshmen who have already been accepted for admittance to CCU for the fall semester. (HGTC students may also be considered.) Proficiency on a musical instrument is not a prerequisite.
Twirlers will audition as a team and individually. You will learn a routine to perform during the audition and will also audition with your own choreographed routine to music of your choosing. Bring your CD labeled with your name and cued to the appropriate place.
The solo routine should be between 1:30-2:00 minute solo routine consisting of one and two baton tricks emphasizing the full extent of your twirling ability. Twirling ability, well developed technique, great showmanship and personality projection are the most important factors in the audition.
Judges are expecting to see participants that are "uniform ready." Please wear your hair and make-up as you would for a performance. (We want to see eyes and red lips.)
Auditionees are required to wear black dance shorts and a fitted white tank top. There are no body type requirements, but we do recommend that auditionees be height/weight proportionate with clean body lines/motions.
This is a closed audition. Parents or others will not be allowed to watch the auditions.
Candidates may be asked to perform multiple times throughout the audition process.
Great attitudes and spirit are key elements to the Coastal Glamour Twirlers,
so come prepared to show both!!
When will I know if I've been selected?
A final list of those selected as members of the Coastal Glamour Twirlers will be posted by the end of the Spring semester on this site and the Band Facebook page. An email will also be sent to all auditionees at the time of the final roster announcement.
How many will be chosen for the Coastal Glamour Twirlers?
We have no set number to choose for the twirl team. We are interested in quality rather than quantity. ALL candidates will be judged on the skills listed above in addition to their work ethic and ATTITUDE!
What if I can't make it to the Spring auditions?
If you cannot make the auditions, you must contact Laura Card. You will be asked to audition by special arrangments on a date prior to June 1. But we MUST hear from you so that we will know to expect your audition at a different time.
If I am selected as a Coastal Glamour Twirler, will I be able to receive a course credit?
Yes. All members receive one-hour credit by registering for MUS 124C.
