Welcome!
When I became president in May 2007, I pledged to begin a process in which we could collectively explore and define our future. Thanks to the involvement of students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and community members, we have moved forward with a revised mission statement for Coastal Carolina University, which was adopted by Coastal Carolina University’s Board of Trustees on December 14, 2007, and which received final approval by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education on January 8, 2008. You may view the new mission statement at http://www.coastal.edu/about/mission.html.
The broad and representative Strategic Planning Steering Committee, whose charge is to chart a bold future for Coastal Carolina University, has been working hard to refine our mission, establish our priorities, and create a process that will link our strategic direction to budgeting and continual outcome-based assessment. The process continues to be one that is transparent and open, and inclusive of all university stakeholders, including students, alumni, faculty and staff, board members and donors, as well as the broad community. The committee has identified a number of critical priorities that will help us deliver on the new mission and vision, which are shown in the image below.

A number of task forces have been established to help guide this process over the next several months, with more than 100 people involved. I thank you for your contributions to the process thus far, and welcome your engagement and feedback in the development of the priorities to deliver on the new mission. Thank you for helping to craft this important and exciting chapter in the history of Coastal Carolina University, a place of proud tradition, integrity and excellence.
