Please review the draft of the Strategic Plan

Please find the draft strategic plan document in Adobe Acrobat form at http://www.coastal.edu/strategicplanning/uploads/StrategicPlanDraftMay0708.pdf. Please send your feedback on issues that you think are either unclear in the draft strategic plan, or on critical areas that you think might be omitted in the current draft of the strategic plan. We will need to have your feedback by Wednesday, May 14, 2008 so that we can proceed with further revisions to the structure of the plan itself, and then we will work to further articulate the specifics of delivering on this plan over the next five years.

Input into Values Statement

Please review the following rough draft of the values statement proposal and provide your feedback. The Strategic Planning Steering Committee will then assemble the comments and provide a revised draft to the Faculty Senate Strategic Planning committee for review. The Values Statement that is eventually embraced as a part of the Strategic Plan will articulate the core values that will guide CCU decision making in the implementation of the new mission. We seek to develop a Values Statement appropriate and unique to CCU, while at the same time keeping it seeking brevity in its presentation.

How was the draft developed?

The first rough draft comes from a review of the comments made in the various faculty, staff, student, alumni, and community feedback sessions conducted in the Fall 2007. In addition, a team of Jackson Scholars, facilitated by Dr. Claudia McCollough and Adam Townsend, went through the new mission statement in January 2008 and identified explicit and implicit values within the mission. A discussion held between these students, Mr. Townsend, Dr. McCollough, and the members of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee provided further refinement. The Strategic Planning Steering Committee then reviewed the values statements or guiding principles of each peer and aspirant institutions, as well as those of a few other institutions to identify comparative attention to values across institutions. Finally, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee provided an initial draft to the President’s Cabinet for the members’ review. The version presented when you click "read more" below represents an integration of these various sources.

Task Force 4 - Ensuring Financial Viability and Managed Growth

This task force will focus on articulating how CCU should focus its resourcs and efforts to both manage growth and dedicate itself to long-term financial viability.

Please review and provide feedback on the statement proposed by the task force members to guide their work in developing initiatives and priorities for CCU in this area.

The Task Force on Ensuring Financial Viability and Managed Growth has been established to address the university’s ability to secure, sustain and manage its resources in a manner that supports Coastal Carolina University’s mission. Specifically, the task force will address objectives relating to financial, human, and infrastructure resources as well as those related to managed growth that addresses both quantitative and qualitative aspects. Managed growth will consist of a balance between students, faculty, facilities and services. Fundamental assumptions of this process include: a commitment to fiscal solvency over the long term; the adoption of a culture of responsive proactive accountability with respect to resource management; and recognition of external stakeholder groups to affect these objectives.

Please see the charge and composition of the Task Force below and add your comments or recommendations to help give the membership of the committee your ideas of what priorities and critical challenges we face in this area.

Please see the charge and composition of the Task Force below and add your comments or recommendations to help give the membership of the committee your ideas of what priorities and critical challenges we face in this area.
