Parking & Transportation
Students living in the residence halls may bring and park their cars
on campus. For residents living at University Place, a University Place
parking permit is required. Residential parking permits may be purchased
from the Department of Public Safety on campus by registering the vehicle
and furnishing the proper information. The University assumes
no responsibility for damages to any vehicle or its contents for reason
of fire, theft, vandalism, or other cause.
It is important that you familiarize yourself with the parking rules
and regulations. Residents have restricted areas for parking. You may
receive a copy of the rules and regulations from the Department of Public
Safety.
Dining
There
are two locations on campus which provide residential student dining,
The Commons and The CINO Grille. The Commons is located between Waccamaw
and Santee halls and serves an all-you-can-eat cafeteria-style breakfast,
lunch, and dinner. The CINO Grille is located in the Student Center and
has a variety of dining options including pizza, deli sandwiches, frozen
yogurt, coffee and pastries, and more. Hours vary by program so check with your program coordinator.
Convenience stores (C-Store)
are located in Waccamaw Hall and University Place 1095. Although
small in size, they offer a variety of groceries and other items for your
convenience.
Health Services
The Coastal Carolina University Office of Student Health Services provides
primary health care for all students residing in the university residence
halls, and is optional for students living off campus.
Health Services are available on campus Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Emergency care is available at Conway Hospital, which is located
less than two miles from campus. Non-residence hall student health insurance
is available on a voluntary basis. If you have any questions regarding
student health services or student health insurance, contact the Office
of Student Health Services at (843) 347-7466.
Laundry
Facilities are located on the first floor of Waccamaw and Santee residence
halls and the second floor of Azalea and Magnolia residence halls. Each
apartment at University Place is equipped with a washer and dryer. All
students are urged to be mindful of energy consumption. We recommend using
warm or cold water rather than hot for most laundry loads. To view machine availability please visit http://www.laundryview.com
Facilities Management
The University employs staff to address any building or landscaping services
within the residence halls. We also provide emergency services during
non-business hours. Periodic maintenance inspections of individual rooms
and apartments are conducted throughout the academic year to identify
any potential fire or health risks and to check for maintenance concerns
which may have gone undetected or unreported. Charges will be levied for
violations of rules and repair beyond normal wear and tear. These charges
will be added to the occupants' bill. Residents are notified in advance
as to the date(s) of inspections.
We encourage awareness of energy consumption and conservation. The following
simple actions will reduce energy consumption: using computer power management
software and turning off computers when not in use; turning off lights
and other appliances when last to leave a room; closing windows when the
heat or coolant is on.
Bicycles may be stored in the appropriate designated areas. In no case
may a bicycle obstruct a corridor, stairway, or path of emergency exit.
Motorcycles, scooters or any other motorized transportation is not allowed
in any building.
Public Safety
Coastal Carolina University has a Department of Public Safety which maintains
community peace, safety, and quality of life. They are available 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. They also work with the local Police and Fire authorities.
We have emergency call boxes located throughout the campus and all residence
halls have surveillance cameras for additional security. At University
Place each bedroom has an emergency call button, once pushed the Department
of Public Safety is notified and they respond immediately to the request.
Some core functions of the Department include patrolling the campus;
checking on the well-being of students, faculty, and staff; responding
to disturbances; taking reports of lost and stolen property; investigating
suspicious activity; responding to alarms; enforcing parking regulations;
investigating trespassers or unwanted guests; and initiating informal
contact with students, faculty, and staff while patrolling.
