The Praxis test is a product of the Educational Testing Services. Coastal offers the Praxis I and II.
Praxis I
Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Assessments (PPST®) are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The reading, writing, and mathematics assessments are available in two formats: paper-based (offered on pre-scheduled Saturday test dates along with the Praxis II) or computer-based.
To register for the computer based test, candidates can either schedule through the Test Center or the national center at www.ets.org or by calling 1-800-853-6773. Candidates may choose to take the three sections of the Praxis I combined test as one appointment or break it down into two or three appointments. If taking the test as one appointment, the fee is $130.00 and time allotted for the test is 4.5 hrs.; if choosing to break the test into two appointments, the fee is $160 and the total testing time for the 2 appointments is 6.5 hrs. (2 hrs. for one appointment and 4.5 for the other); if taking the test at three appointed times, the fee is $160. Should a candidate fail any one part of the combined test, that is the only portion for which they must retest. Candidates may retest once a month but no more than six times in a 12 month period. Candidates must present two valid current forms of identification such as a driver's license and a school ID (one must be a signed photo ID) . All scratch paper and pencils will be provided . Candidates must allow three days, not counting the scheduled test date and the day calling, to request to reschedule a test; be aware that a rescheduling fee will be charged. Should the request to reschedule fall short of the three day limit, candidates will forfeit their entire fee. All rescheduling requests should go through the Candidate Services Contact Center by contacting 1-800-853-6773.
