** Please note that appointments for CLEP exams must be made at least 48 hours in advance.

College Level Exam Program (CLEP)

Students can take an online test and receive college credit for various courses. This allows the student to decrease the amount of time it might take to earn a degree. For a complete list of courses for which credit is given, as well as which ones are accepted at Coastal Carolina University, see the CLEP online brochure.

Students may take each test only once and pass to receive credit for courses. Tests are given by appointment during regular Center hours. A registration form must be filled out and submitted online (link below) with a $40 payment (non-refundable). Once the form is received, it will be submitted to the Dean of the College of the student's major for signature (CCU students only).  Once we have the Dean's approval, the candidate will receive a phone call from the testing center to schedule an appointment. Non-CCU students will be contacted by the testing center after CCU has received payment.

The student will need to bring a valid government-issued ID and voucher number from CLEP, when they come to the Center to take their test.

To register and pay click here: http://www.coastal.edu/testcenter/registration/ Once registration has been processed (and Dean has approved, for CCU students only) you will receive a phone call from the testing center to set an appointment time.  Testing hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., closed holidays.

* Please note that all persons wishing to take the CLEP must register with CLEP first, where you will receive a voucher number.  Then you will need to register with CCU and provide that voucher number.  Both of these registrations must be done prior to showing up to take the test(s).   To register with CLEP visit: http://clep.collegeboard.org/register/exam

CLEP candidates are required to present one (1) valid identification.  The primary ID must be a government-issued photo ID with candidate's name, signature and recognizable photograph.

If you have questions about the ID requirements, please contact the Academic Testing Center before your scheduled appointment.

Acceptable primary IDs:

  • Current passport, valid driver's license, state/providence ID issued by motor vehicle agency, national ID card, tribal ID card, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship, or if the student is a minor and unable to provide a primary government issued ID then the College Board ID Form may be used.

*Please note that a Social Security Card, credit/debit cards, and employee ID are not acceptable IDs.

Concise practice CLEP tests randomly drawn from comprehensive subject question banks (400-500 questions per subject) provide students with a tangible way to gauge their knowledge and get familiar with the types of questions they would face on a real CLEP exam. Best of all, this can be accomplished in 20-30 minutes from the ease of your laptop with instant feedback. Simply click on the practice exam portal (http://www.speedyprep.com/clep/free-practice-test).
