The GRE® General Test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study.
Currently, this test is offered via computer, during regular Testing Center hours. Candidates may schedule through the Testing Center or the Education Testing Services website, www.ets.org.
The test is four and one half hours in length and candidates see their unofficial scores upon completion of the test. The cost of the test is $160 and payment is due when scheduling the appointment.
Note: You may take the GRE General Test (computer-based and/or paper-based) only once every 60 days and no more than five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period.
Taking the GRE® revised General Test
Registration is now open for the GRE revised General Test, which replaced the current GRE® General Test on August 1, 2011. It features a new, test-taker friendly design, new types of questions and, if you test in August or September 2011, a 50% savings on your test fee (you must register online at ETS.org)

In December, score reporting for the computer-based test will return to the regular

Subject Test
The GRE® Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in eight specific fields of study.
