Alice Anne Oakes

Alice Anne Oakes has enjoyed a successful career in professional theater, film, and television for many years.

Broadway and National tour production credits include: Anything Goes with Patti Lupone and Leslie Uggams;
Broadway Follies with Shields and Yarnell; Chaplin with Anthony Newley; The Music Man with Tony Randall, and Carousel with Robert Goulet.

Ms. Oakes often served as Dance Captain, and had the pleasure of assisting legendary and Tony Award winning Choreographers on numerous occasions, from Industrial shows to Commercials to Broadway and Off-Off Broadway productions. Some of these Masters include Michael Smuin, Larry Fuller, Arthur Faria, and Frank Wagner. After receiving the Tony Award for Choreography for Anything Goes, Michael Smuin and the nine featured ladies of the cast appeared on the cover of Dance Magazine (January 1988).

For years in NYC, Ms. Oakes primarily continued to study ballet with David Howard, who later became the Artistic Advisor to the Peoria Ballet, (Illinois), where Ms. Oakes taught and simultaneously served as Business Manager under the Artistic Direction of Mary Price Boday. She also taught at Illinois State University and Bradley University. In NYC, she studied Jazz with Luigi, Phil Black, Chuck Kelly and Michael Shawn. She first studied acting with Warren Robertson, but transferred to T. Schreiber Studios, to study with Terry Schreiber. Her former vocal coaches and Musical Directors remain in the forefront of musical theater today.

During the years Ms. Oakes portrayed the recurring character Nurse Jodie on the longest running daytime drama, Guiding Light, she was also Director/Choreographer for Raquel Welch Live, a nightclub act. She continued to serve as Choreographer for CBS's Guiding Light and As the World Turns, and NBC's Another World. Ms. Oakes was a featured dancer in NBC's Saturday Night Live original rock video parody, "Dr. Ira Needleman", which garnished Emmy awards. During that engagement she was reunited with a former dressing room pal from their youthful days at the Princeton Ballet, (NJ), the infamous Bebe Neuwirth.

Ms. Oakes was a featured dancer in the film Cotton Club, directed by Frances Ford Coppola, and subsequently worked for Mr. Coppola as a Choreographer for his film in New York Stories. She was a featured dancer in the film, Phi Beta Rockers, choreographed by the Academy Award winning director Matthew Diamond, and can be seen in the International film, A Woman for All Time, a biography of the ballerina Anna Pavlova.

Alice Anne Oakes has been an active and proud member of her parent union, Actor's Equity Association since 1976, the bicentennial of our country. She is also a member of SAG and AFTRA, and briefly served on their regional board in Denver.
