The cultural arts program at Coastal Carolina University complements the academic experience for students and enriches the quality of life in the community and region by offering a dynamic and diverse calendar of cultural events.
The core of the program is student-centered: to provide opportunities for Coastal Carolina University students to develop their artistic potential through public performances and exhibits of theatrical, musical or visual media.
Each semester, the calendar includes one or more "premium performances," programs showcasing visiting artists and lecturers who are world-renowned in their fields. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, violinist Joshua Bell, the Second City comedy troupe, journalist Carl Bernstein, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin and Christian singer Sandi Patti have appeared at Coastal Carolina University.
Since 1981, Wheelwright Auditorium has offered a traditional theater setting for a glittering spectrum of lectures and performances. The University now offers three additional venues for the performing and visual arts in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts: the Recital Hall, the Edwards Black Box Theatre and the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery.
