Activities in 1999 - 2000

HONORS

      International honors again came to Waccamaw center Director Charles Joyner during the 1999-2000, when the American Civil War Round Table of Australia named him an Honorary Life Member. He was only the second person ever named to such membership. The first was Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating.

      Joyner was also named to a three-year term on the Executive Board of the Southern Historical Association, after having served on the membership and nominating committees, and having chaired the Frank L. Owsley Award Committee and the 1999 Program Committee.

      In September Joyner received the "Ambassador of Peace" Award from the Louis G. Gregory Baha'i Center in recognition of his work to improve human relations.
