Activities in 1999 - 2000

LECTURE SERIES

      The Center brought a series of distinguished international scholars to conduct faculty colloquia at Coastal Carolina University on their current research, including Prof. Graham White of the University of Sydney, Australia, discussing his study of "The Sounds of Slavery," in October; Prof. Warren Ellem of La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, discussing his study of "The Fall of Fort Fisher: Contested Memories of the Civil War," in November; Prof. Waldemar Zacharasiewicz of the University of Vienna, Austria, discussing his study of "Southern Culture and the Ideas of Europe," in February; and the noted American historian Bill C. Malone of Tulane University, singing his entire lecture, "Take This Job and Shove It: Country Music and Southern Workers," in April.
