WCCU Radio is an internet radio station run by students of Coastal Carolina University. It's located in Brittain Hall, and operates under the University’s Department of Communication and Journalism. The radio station is on-air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with support from the Backbone Network. Live student programming includes music, news/talk, sports, and public affairs shows.
The primary purpose of the station is to serve as an instructional laboratory for the Department of Communication and Journalism, so students may learn and practice broadcasting and journalism. The station is supervised by faculty advisors, and offers a learning environment where students can experience different aspects of broadcasting including journalism, programming, marketing, and on-air performance. Students create and broadcast their own shows under the guidance and supervision of experienced student managers and faculty advisors.
The station provides a broadcast service in the form of information and entertainment programming designed to meet the student interest of the University and surrounding communities. It is responsible to the Coastal Carolina Board of Trustees, and the Chair of the Communication Department for the daily operation of the facility. Because it is an internet radio station WCCU is not bound by the regulations of the Federal Communications Commission, but the station does use those regulations as a guide for operations. WCCU operates in the public interest, and is responsive to the needs of the college and the local community.
