Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University (WIPL) was created to transform the lives of students at Coastal Carolina University and to make a difference in the greater community by leveraging the impact of women and their donations of time, talent and resources.
WIPL was formed in 2007 under the leadership of Coastal Carolina University First Lady Terri DeCenzo with faculty and staff and some of the area's leading philanthropists and business professionals, all of whom were committed to supporting the University through collective giving and annual donations. The pooled donations provide scholarships to deserving Coastal Carolina University students and support leadership programs and opportunities for women across disciplines. Since its inception, WIPL has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships while creating an endowed scholarship in addition to annual awards.
Since 2011, the Women's Leadership Conference has featured more than 250 world-class speakers and the Celebration of Inspiring Women has recognized 37 women whose lives have made a significant impact in South Carolina and the nation, including 2017 honorees Kristin Bohan, Lou Kennedy and Vanessa E. Wyche. The seventh annual Conference and Celebration will held Feb. 7-8, 2017, at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel. Keynote speakers include:
- Julissa Arce, author of My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive.
- Samantha Ettus, work/life expert and best-selling author
- Jan Fields, former president of McDonald’s USA
- Vanessa Gualy and Jenna Hipp, co-founders of Nailing Hollywood Management Inc.
