Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University (WIPL) was created to transform the lives of students at Coastal Carolina University and to make a difference in the greater community by leveraging the impact of women and their donations of time, talent and resources.
WIPL was formed in 2007 under the leadership of Coastal Carolina University First Lady Terri DeCenzo (left) with faculty and staff and some of the area’s leading philanthropists and business professionals, all of whom were committed to supporting the University through collective giving and annual donations. The pooled donations provide scholarships to deserving Coastal Carolina University students and support leadership programs and opportunities for women across disciplines.
Since 2007 WIPL has awarded $170,000 in scholarships to 122 Coastal Carolina students, 27 of whom have received scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year. WIPL reached a milestone in 2013 when its endowed scholarship fund passed the $100,000 mark, generating enough for a $5,000 annual scholarship; the second WIPL Legacy Endowed Scholarship has been awarded for Fall 2015. In addition, the Mr. Scott Pyle and Dr. Pamela Pyle "Make a Difference" Scholarship has been awarded for three years. A major gift made it possible for two students were able to study global women’s leadership at the prestigious Washington Internship Institute.
Since 2010 the Women’s Leadership Conference has featured more than 225 world-class speakers and the Celebration of Inspiring Women has recognized 30 women whose lives have made a significant impact in South Carolina, the nation and the world. The sixth annual Conference and Celebration will be held February 10-11, 2016, at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel.
