319 Project: Educational Outreach
Identification and Mitigation of Non-Point Sources of Fecal Coliform Bacteria and Low Dissolved Oxygen in Kingston Lake and Crabtree Creek (Waccamaw River Watershed)
Educational Outreach

The lead organization has received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF AIRE grant) to begin a volunteer monitoring program on the Waccamaw River using local high school and college students. The project will apply for formal status as a SC Riverwatch Chapter. As part of the proposed project, the lead PI’s will engage the High School students in site visits and presentations regarding the impact of NPS pollution on the watershed. Similar presentations will be given to local community groups, including environmental clubs, property owners associations and other civic groups some of whom have demonstrated great concern over these matters to the PI's but lack the necessary technical understanding to effectively express themselves.
