About Gerrita Postlewait
Gerrita Postlewait served as superintendent of Horry County Schools for 10 years beginning in 1996.
She has been president of the South Carolina school superintendents' group and was selected as a member of the governing board of the American Association of School Administrators. She also served on several state and national committees, including the Governor's Council for Economic Competitiveness, the Education Oversight Committee's Common Ground initiative, the Superintendency Institute of America, and as a representative on several national panels and commissions.
She has received several awards, including selection by her peers as South Carolina’s Superintendent of the Year; distinction as a Fellow of the National Effective Schools Institute; and designation as the Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association, the South Carolina Music Educators Association, and the South Carolina School Boards Association. She is a recipient of the exemplary service award from the South Carolina Association of Teacher Educators and was named Myrtle Beach Citizen of the Year in 2006.
She earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree and Ph.D., all from West Virginia University.
Postlewait was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Public Service from Coastal Carolina University during the May 2006 commencement ceremony.
