William M. Plate Jr. - Vice President for University Communication and Chief Marketing Officer

William “Bill” Plate, MBA, is the vice president for University Communication and chief marketing officer at Coastal Carolina University. Plate has been with the University since January of 2013.

Reporting directly to the president, Plate provides leadership and strategic direction to CCU’s Office of University Communication and Marketing, which includes the departments of marketing, trademarks and licensing, social media, public and media relations, communication, video production services, web content management services, and creative services — which includes graphic design, photography and the print shop.

Plate currently serves as a member of CCU’s Executive Council, Emergency Management Team, Strategic Planning Committee, and is the chair of the Web Advisory Committee. He is also on the editorial board for the Journal of Education Advancement and Marketing – a peer-reviewed journal written by and for professionals in the areas of marketing and communication, alumni relations, development and fundraising for educational institutions.

With a strategic focus on elevating reputation and increasing brand awareness, Plate has been creating and executing integrated marketing and communication strategic plans for up-and-coming universities for more than 14 years, and creatively telling stories for more than 20 years. Prior to joining Teal Nation, he worked at Florida Atlantic University for nearly 10 years where he served as director of University Marketing and Creative Services. Plate also spent five years as assistant project manager for Visual Information Services at Dover Air Force Base, where he managed a team of photographers and graphic designers. He started his career as a photojournalist, working as a freelance photographer for the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y.

Plate earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in professional photographic illustration from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
