Dr. Debbie Conner has been with Coastal Carolina University since 1994 where she started as a graduate assistant in student activities after having been a high school teacher and coach for 3 years. Currently, she is the Vice President for Campus Life and Student Engagement and Chief Student Affairs Officer.
Debbie was recognized in 2015 as the alumnus of the year for the University of South Carolina Higher Education Graduate Program and in 2012 awarded Leadership Grand Strand’s Ann DeBock Leadership Award in recognition of outstanding leadership and service to the Grand Strand community. She and her husband have established a scholarship at CCU for student leaders with financial need. She is an active member of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA), the NASPA Foundation and the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA). Debbie has served on the faculty for NASPAs Mid Manager Institute and in 2017 was a participant in the NASPA International Exchange Program where she was a delegate in north west England.
Dr. Conner graduated with her bachelor’s degree in psychology and secondary education from Converse College, her masters in student personnel services from University of SC and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Clemson University. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Clemson University and Coastal Carolina University. Her areas of academic interest are in organizational management and educational leadership.
