Dr. Zlata Stanković-Ramirez, an expert in child development and early education, is from Brcko, Bosnia and Herzegovina and is a first-generation immigrant to the United States from former Yugoslavia. Zlata spent over 20 years in Dallas, TX where she was a preschool teacher, preschool director, mentor, trainer, and advocate for young children. She also served as an instructor of child development at several colleges in Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Zlata received her Master of Science degree in Child Development and her Ph.D. in Child Development and Early Education from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. She has worked with young children ages 0-5 as a teacher and director for over 10 years and has served on the boards of Dallas Chapter of Texas Association for the Education of Young Children and Texas AEYC for 10 years combined advocating for high quality early childhood education for all children. She also serves on NAEYC boards and committees.
Dr. Zlata Stankovic-Ramirez has a passion for designing children’s learning and living spaces. She loves to travel and enjoys spending time with her family. She has a passion for a good movie, a good book, and a good conversation with friends, colleagues, and students.

Dr. Zlata Stanković-Ramirez’s research interests include high quality early childhood classroom environments and factors that drive the success of children in early childhood education programs. She particularly explores early childhood teachers’ perspectives on decision making regarding initial set up of classroom environments, and how they modify their environments during the academic year.
