Biography
Rick Kilroy came to Coastal Carolina University in 2014, after teaching for National Defense University and in the Army’s Special Warfare Center and School at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He had previously taught full-time at East Carolina University, Virginia Military Institute, and National Defense University. Before full-time teaching, he spent 23 years on active duty military service as an Army Intelligence Officer and Latin America Foreign Area Officer. He also taught Information Operations and Latin America Regional Studies at the Joint Forces Staff College. He has lived overseas in Germany, Panama, and Mexico. He is a non-resident fellow in the Center for the United States and Mexico, part of the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Interesting Facts
Three of his four daughters have also pursued careers in Education, Intelligence, and the Military: one is a Middle School Gifted and Talented teacher in Greenville, NC; another is a Public Affairs Seaman in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Portsmouth, VA., and the third is currently working for the U.S. State Department at the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. (In June 2022, Dr. Kilroy and his wife and daughted visited her.)
Dr. Kilroy presented a paper at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in June 2022 on U.S.-Mexico relations which will be published as a book chapter, “Challenging the ‘Colossus of the North’: Mexico, CELAC, and the Implications of Replacing the Organization of American States with a New Regional Security Organization,” in Tony Payan and Abelardo Rodriguez ed., Forecasting the U.S.-Mexico Relationship: Global and Regional Scenarios, Boulder, CO: Lynne Rienner, Forthcoming Spring 2023. Has also co-authored a book with Abelardo Rodriquez and Todd Hataley, North American Regional Security: a Contested Relationship, published by Iberoamerican University Press, Mexico City, 2020. In April 2022, Dr. Kilroy will take CCU students to the Washington Model Organization of American States conference where they will represent the country of Honduras.
