If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." - J.R.R. Tolkien and "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." - Neil Gaiman
Biography
Ana Maria Lavado was born in Conway, SC but moved around a lot growing up, living in North Carolina, Illinois, and Spain before returning to Myrtle Beach right before high school. She graduated from Carolina Forest High School in 2009 and proceeded to attend Coastal Carolina University where she earned her Honors Bachelors in English with a minor in Art History. While at CCU, she founded the Coastal Quidditch Team and worked as an Orientation Leader before doing her junior year abroad at the University of Exeter, England. During her senior year at CCU, she stayed involved with the study abroad/international scene, working as a Spanish tutor and International Student Ambassador while dreaming of the day she would be able to return to Europe. After graduating with her Honors Bachelors in English with a minor in Art History, she went on to attend graduate school at the University of York in the UK where she earned her Masters in Medieval Studies. After graduate school, she moved to northern Illinois where she spent the next 6 years working towards her passion of helping students fulfill their academic and personal goals, specifically in the realm of studying abroad and finding that perfect degree. She returned to CCU in January 2020 as the Admissions Counselor for High Ability Recruitment before joining the Edwards Advising team in November 2021. Ana Maria loves reading fantasy novels, traveling, playing Dungeons and Dragons with her husband, and spending time with her family and friends.
